An introduction to Mobile Air Conditioners
Mobile Air Conditioners
Are the easiest route to true air
conditioning in the office or home. They can be installed easily,
connecting into a 13 amp socket and are ready to use immediately.
Mobile Air Conditioning units work by
taking heat from a room, expelling it to the outside. Air inside the room
is chilled and recirculated. There are two main types of mobile, single
units and split systems.
Room Sizing
Room sizes are given as an approximate guide.
They are calculated on the basis of 40w needed to cool 1 cubic metre (4 Btu/h per cubic foot). However, when
determining the model best suited for your room remember that each room has its
own characteristics, so heat gain should be considered too.
South and West facing windows, more than 2 people in a
room and office equipment will all add more heat to a room so a more powerful
air conditioner will be required.
Single Units
These are instantly recognised by their
exhaust hose which is used to expel the hot and damp air to the outside.
Single units can cope with a wide range of standard room requirements.
Split Systems
For larger rooms or rooms that have bigger
heat loads, split systems are normally required. They are easily
recognised by the separate (condenser) box that needs to be placed outside the
room.
EFFECTIVE COOLING
All mobile air conditioners take moisture from the air. Delonghi
mobiles recycle this moisture to improve cooling efficiency by pumping the water
from a collection tray over the condenser. This allows a more efficient
operation and means that the machine will operate longer in very humid
conditions than many of its competitors.
EXHAUSTING THE HEAT
Single Units
This is achieved by means of a 1 metre flexible hose. This hose must be
vented through an outside wall or window using the socket provided. As a
temporary instant solution, a flattened adaptor is included so that the hose can
be fitted through a partially opened window or door. Extra exhaust sockets can
be installed, so that your air conditioner can be moved between rooms.

Split Systems
The separate external (condenser) box is connected to the main inside unit by
means of refrigerant lines. These lines can be disconnected, so they can
be passed through a hole in the wall, about the size of half a brick before
reconnecting. The external box can be placed either on the ground outside, a
window sill or balcony, or be hooked on straps over the edge of a window frame
or attached to the outside wall on the bracket supplied.
