Every mobile air conditioner must have a means of rejecting heat removed from the area. To date no one has invented a unit that makes heat vanish or disappear up the electrical plug lead ! The majority of mobile units have an exhaust hose which allows heat to be rejected outside of the building. The hoses are generally about 3 inches in diameter but on some models the hose can be 10 inches diameter. The exhaust hose can, as a temporary measure, be put through a partially open window, but this is not an ideal arrangement. For a more permanent installation, a wall or window kit is available and the hose can be plugged into a "socket" in the wall or window. The socket can be blanked off when the air conditioner is not in use or moved to another location. Some mobile air conditioners utilise a water tank that needs daily, or sometimes twice daily refilling. Whilst the cooling duty of this type is generally highest one should bear in mind the chore of filling the water tank ! When an air conditioner is cooling, the humidity in the room air is reduced and the air conditioner removes water to achieve this function. The water in some air conditioners is collected in a tank, which needs emptying from time to time. In other air conditioners the water is exhausted along with the reject hot air. In our opinion, the best choice would be a mobile air conditioner that does not require filling with water or emptying. The price of mobile units are similar. The units with timers, heater and other extra features are naturally more expensive than basic machines, but do not confuse high price with high cooling duty. The machines we offer combine a balance of cooling duty with price and appearance, and moreover, value for money.
